Where we serve

Mental health care on Lanai.

Lanai City. A few thousand people, no specialty mental health infrastructure, and an airport as the traditional route to anything intensive.

Getting care on Lanai today.

Civil Beat’s 2023 reporting found no child psychiatrist on Lanai or Molokai, and described a Lanai mother flying to Honolulu for her child’s appointments — her word for it was exhausting. Our program is for adults, so that figure is cited here for what it measures: on an island this size, specialty mental health care has meant leaving.

For a weekly appointment, leaving is expensive and disruptive. For a program that meets four evenings a week, it is impossible. That is the entire reason a level of care this common on the mainland has never been a real option on Lanai.

What changes

What we bring to Lanai.

A complete intensive outpatient program that runs from your own house, at the same standard as every other island we serve.

What we treat, Lanai included

The program treats anxiety, depression, trauma and PTSD, bipolar disorder, and substance use — in separate mental health and substance use tracks, with a co-occurring path for people carrying both.

Coverage and cost on Lanai

Coverage depends on your plan, not your address, and there is no travel cost to absorb here. We verify your benefits with the payer and tell you your expected out-of-pocket cost before you commit to anything.

How it works

How to start.

01

Reach out

Call or fill out our online form. You talk to a real member of our team, not a bot. We’ll ask what’s been going on and what you’ve already tried.

02

Clinical assessment

Within a few days, a licensed clinician walks you through a full assessment by video, to determine whether we’re a fit for you.

03

Insurance and cost

We verify your benefits and tell you what you will actually owe before you commit to anything. No surprise balance later.

04

Start your group

You are placed in a cohort and meet your clinician before the first session, so you walk into a room where someone already knows your name.

Questions

Straight answers.

People from all of the islands, formed by clinical fit rather than by geography. On an island of a few thousand that matters more than anywhere else in the state, and if you ever recognize someone in your group, say so and we will move you.

You keep attending. Groups are joined by video, so a week on Oahu or on the mainland does not interrupt your treatment — bring your device and tell your clinician the time zone. This is the part of a virtual program that quietly works better than the in-person version.

Distance stops being the reason.

One conversation, by video, to find out what level of care fits. Nothing about it requires an airport.
